If you want to surf Canadian-style Tofino has exceptional surfing. The waves roll in along miles of sandy beaches approximately 35km’s of surf-able beach break. Surfing is a year-round water sport in Tofino with a fairly constant temperature of 10°C/50°F. In October, Tofino welcomes the best women in surf to the annual Queen of the Peak surf contest, this is a week’s worth of entertainment activities to watch and experience. The most popular surfing beaches are Chesterman Beach, Cox Bay, and Long Beach Tofino’s most famous beach.
Paddle boarding has become another popular water sport in Tofino. Not as challenging or as extreme as surfing and offers a great core strengthening workout.
Tofino also boasts a gem of a skateboarding park. In the month of July hundreds of spectators gather downtown for the annual Tuff City Skate Competition to watch the high-flying manoeuvrings of talented skateboard enthusiasts. The skatepark is located at Third and Campbell at the Tofino Village Green. For the little ones the park also has swings, monkey bars and slides.
Another favorite past-time for residents and visitors is beach combing and walking the long stretches of white sandy beaches with their furry friends.
