Steam Clock Downtown Vancouver

The downtown Vancouver Steam Clock is in for some minor repairs at the Manitoba Work Yards.    Under close supervision this landmark is being refurbished with new glass, clock workings and steam engine.   The Steam Clock was unveiled Sept 26th, 1977 and this is the first time is gone silent from its usual 15 minute toots.    Estimated repair time of 2 months then it’s back on the corner of Water and Cambie Streets.

Royal Canadian Mint Gold and Silver

  The Royal Canadian Mint was founded in 1908 as a branch of the British Royal Mint.  It strikes many special edition coins and Maple Leaf bullion investment coins.  The mint also processes about 70 percent of the country’s gold in its refinery, which is among the largest in North American.  The building was refurbished fully in the 1980′s and now offers guided tours.  They are available daily, but coinage fanatics must make reservations in advance to see the process that turns sheets of metal into bags of shiny gold coins.
